If You Were Mine

They say that gamblers always go for the loser

And when you're happy you fall for the clown

So why can't this beggar be a chooser

You always turn me down

I don't understand it yet

You let him push you around like that

When you know I would be glad to have

Such a beautiful lady

You put up with the things you do

I know the way he talks to you

Pain he couldn't put you through

If you were mine

They say that opposites attract one another

And if it goes wrong then you just blame yourself

So why won't you take me as a lover

Instead of somebody else?

I don't understand it yet

You let him treat you as dirt like that

You know he doesn't deserve to have

Such a beautiful lady

I know you lie awake at night

Crying till the morning light

But I could make you feel all right

If you were mine

Oh, if only you could see

That you're holding on to a dream

And you could do much worse

Than take a chance with me

They say that fortune always smiles on the trier

So either way you've got nothing to lose

Cos if it's a choice between the truth and a liar

I know what I'd choose

I don't understand it yet

You let him push you around like that

When you know I would be glad to have

Such a beautiful lady

You put up with the things you do

I know the way he talks to you

Pain he couldn't put you through

If you were mine

I don't understand it yet

You let him treat you as dirt like that

You know he doesn't deserve to have

Such a beautiful lady

I know you lie awake at night

Crying till the morning light

But I could make you feel all right

If you were mine
